Hospital cleanliness

Download table of results for all trusts (2.6MB)
Whole trust score of hospital cleanliness, formulated against Patient Environment Action Team (PEAT) visits. Where there is more than one hospital/site within a Trust, the score for the Trust will be an aggregation of the scores for each site, weighted to take account of the relative size(s) of the hospital/sites assessed.

Rationale
Research carried out amongst various interest groups in advance of the launch of the NHS Plan identified that cleanliness had become a major issue. The NHS Plan stated in section 4.15: "every hospital will have an unannounced inspection of its cleanliness, by a specialist inspection team including patients. The results will be made available to the local media". To meet this requirement, Patient Environment Action Teams (PEAT), comprising members drawn from Facilities and Estates staff, Hotel Services Managers, Domestic Managers, Caterers, Infection Control Nurses and patient representative organisations will visit and assess individual hospitals.
