Mapping Acute Trusts A&E to PCT

Data for this indicator is based on Acute Trusts' performance. The Department of Health has mapped Trusts with A&E onto PCTs in order for the 2002/03 performance ratings to be calculated. This mapping was carried out through a consultation exercise with StHAs. Throughout the exercise StHAs were asked to keep within some central guidelines, these are set out below.

  • Every PCT should be mapped on to one or more type 1 A&E and each trust with a type 1 A&E should be mapped onto one or more PCT;

  • All arrangements had to be locally equitable and transparent

For practical reasons a threshold had to be set on what was a significant level of service to a PCT. Therefore a level of significance was set to be over 15% of the PCT's A&E service.
