Number of patients who were waiting more than 15 months throughout the year, or more than 12 months at end of March 2003, for an inpatient admission.
Rationale
From end of March 2002, the maximum wait for inpatient treatment is 15 months. From end of March 2003, the maximum wait for inpatient treatment is 12 months. The NHS Plan commitment is to reduce the maximum wait for inpatient treatment to 6 months by the end of 2005. Urgent cases will continue to be treated in accordance with clinical need.
