Plans in place to enable people to obtain NHS dentistry within local standards, following request for help through NHS Direct and local enquiry points.
Rationale
The NHS Plan set out a target for September 2001 of making high quality NHS dentistry available to all who want it. NHS Direct will help direct patients to NHS dentistry. PCTs should have standards for provision of dentistry in place and agreed with local stakeholders (detail as set out in NatPaCT competencies framework). Close working with NHS Direct and local dentists will have been required to achieve the 2001 target and will need to have been maintained.
