Consultant appraisal

Download table of results for all trusts (2.6MB)
Percentage of consultants who have completed annual appraisal as set out in Advanced Letter AL (MD) 05/01, including the appraisal meeting and signing off their personal development plan.

Rationale
An appraisal system for hospital consultants was introduced from April 2001. All consultants should have been appraised by March 2002, and annually thereafter. NHS Chief Executives are responsible for ensuring that all consultants are appraised to timetable. Appraisals will support Continuing Professional Development, Clinical Governance, Improving Working Lives and improvements to the patient experience. This data will help identify any problem areas in order that they can be tackled directly.
