Whole trust PEAT score for hospital food formulated against Patient Environment Action Team (PEAT) visits. Where there is more than one hospital/site within a Trust, the score for the Trust will be an aggregation of the scores for each site, weighted to take account of the relative size(s) of the hospitals/sites assessed.

Rationale
Providing patients with high quality food services is a key component of the patient experience. The Better Hospital Food programme was announced in the NHS Plan (Section 4) and is designed to improve both the quality and availability of food in hospitals and the NHS has been set a range of targets. The NHS Plan also stated there would be unannounced inspections of the quality of hospital food. To meet this requirement Patient Environment Action Teams (PEATs) comprising members drawn from Facilities and Estates staff, Hotel Services Managers, Domestic Managers, Caterers, Infection Control Nurses and patient representative organisations will visit and assess individual hospitals.
