Degree to which Community Mental Health Teams have integrated health and social care staff within a single management structure.

Rationale
Integrated health and social care Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT) are the cornerstone of MHNSF and NHS Plan implementation. These objectives are set out in MHNSF Standards 4 and 5 on effective services for people with severe mental illness. These targets are supported by DH guidance on 'Effective Care Coordination in Mental Health Services - Modernising the Care Programme Approach' (SSI/NHSE 1999). Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) integration criteria are: (i). interagency multidisciplinary staff involving health and social services; (ii). single operational management for all staff within the team regardless of employing agency; (iii). integrated assessment, care planning and care co-ordination; (iv). joint recording systems and IT systems.
