CAMHS service mapping

Contribution to the collection of data on local CAMH services (service mapping). Trusts with CAMH services have been asked to return information on their services in autumn 2002. They will be assessed on the completeness and quality of these returns.

Rationale
In 1999 an Audit Commission report identified a severe lack of consistent data on CAMH services. There is an urgent need to develop a regular and reliable source of information on service provision as is already being done for adult MH services. This information will provide an important source for the Children's NSF to be published next year (2003). Following successful piloting, a national mapping exercise was launched earlier this year, and is expected to be repeated annually. Mapping will improve services for children and young people by i) assisting bids for resources, ii) supporting the management and development of services and iii) supporting NHS Plan roll out and the development and implementation of the NSF for children.
