Information governance

Achievement of information governance targets.

Rationale
This indicator is based upon Caldicott returns, which report organisational progress across 18 confidentiality and security measures. Work is underway to develop a strategic framework known as "Information Governance", which will build on the confidentiality and security measures currently being reported on. Information Governance will bring together existing requirements, limits and best practice that apply to the processing of confidential information about individuals. Information Governance (Version 1) which will be introduced to the NHS during 2003/04, is likely to consist of the following components: Confidentiality and Consent (including Caldicott), Data Protection, Records Management, Data Quality and Data Accreditation and IM&T Security.
