Information governance & Data Accreditation.

Rationale
This indicator is based upon Caldicott returns, and Data Accreditation implementation. Caldicott returns report organisational progress across 18 confidentiality and security measures. Work is underway to develop a strategic framework known as "Information Governance", which will build on the confidentiality and security measures currently being reported on. Information Governance will bring together existing requirements, standards and best practice that apply to the processing of confidential information about individuals. Information Governance (Version 1), which will be introduced to the NHS during 2003/4, is likely to consist of the following components: Confidentiality and Consent (including Caldicott), Data Protection, Records Management, and IM&T Security. All Acute Trusts were expected to have completed up to Stage 2 of Data Accreditation by March 2002.
