Deaths within 30 days of a heart bypass operation

Download table of results for all trusts (2.6MB)
Deaths within 30 days of surgery for heart bypass operation, (which includes deaths in hospital and after discharge) - rate per 100,000.

Rationale
The national confidential enquiries into deaths after surgery (NCEPOD) have, over many years, consistently shown that some deaths are associated with shortcomings in health care. The NHS may be helped to prevent such potentially avoidable deaths by seeing comparative figures and learning lessons from the confidential enquiries and from the experience of hospitals with low death rates.
